FPDRG Enlightening lives

Our aim is to provide opportunities for people with a wide range of disabilities to enjoy the unique benefits of horse riding and carriage driving. Follifoot Park Disabled Riders Group see disability as a starting point from which everyone can achieve something.

The Group is entirely self-supporting and for us to continue providing riding and carriage driving, we always need more volunteers. We do not incur salary costs but we still need to raise about £3,000 a month to cover our riding and carriage driving costs.  Can you help us by volunteering or giving us a donation?

£400 Raised - Great North Run 2017

Since I turned 40 a few years ago I've been setting myself challenges, I've really got into running & along with my running buddy Lisa we decided that a half marathon would be good challenge and what better one to enter than The Great North Run. We both discussed raising money for a charity with Freddie (my son) in mind and as a family we have always been grateful for FDRG and for all they have done for Freddie, so what better way to give back than to raise money & complete the challenge. So we both entered, I was lucky enough to get in through the ballot and the training started.

Whilst completing the GNR I felt really proud & humbled at all the amazing 57'000 people running for someone loved & lost, for a charity close to their heart or just running for the challenge.

The 13.1 miles is the most I have ever run in my life, it was truly a challenge but I enjoyed every minute.
I'm proud to say I raised £400 which is amazing, so this will go towards ensuring other children get to experience the great work that you guys do at FDRG.

Mickley Picnic Tuesday 22nd August 2017

The weather for the Mickley picnic this year was rather grey, but this did not deter the spirits of our horse and carriage riders and volunteers. There was a good turnout, as usual,, and we all enjoyed the generous hospitality of Michael and Amanda Abrahams and family, who welcomed us into their house and gardens.  After lunch, Michael Abrahams presented certificates to volunteers who have completed 10 years of volunteering. Then our riders were able to have a trip out in the carriage or a gentle walk around the field on one of our trusty horses.  The riders loved the change of scenery whilst the horses seemed to enjoy the change of grass.  The fun was obviously infectious because one of the carers bravely mounted a horse for the first time- he admitted the ground seemed a long way away from up on Smithy's back, but he found it a great experience and hopes to do it again. Thanks to everyone who attended to make it another successful picnic.
